Calling all cars and cars buffs.
The 6th annual International Route 66 Mother Road Festival & Car Show in Springfield, Illinois returns with some things old and some things new. But no one will be blue at the Midwest's biggest tribute to the country's best-loved road, U.S. Route 66. The festival is cool cars, hot music and free entertainment right in the heart of Springfield's historic downtown, Sept 28-30, 2007.
Here are the highlights of 2007's International Route 66 Mother Road Festival & Car Show
1,000 classic and vintage cars and trucks from across the U.S.and Canada.
80,000+ Route 66 and car enthusiasts from around the globe.
Friday evening "Route 66 City Nights Car Cruise."
Burnout contest onsite Saturday afternoon.
Restoration Alley is all about detailing and bodywork, metal fabrication, engine rebuilds, and dress ups, plus demos from car product manufacturers will be at this year's International Route 66 Mother Road Festival & Car Show's.
And then there's Gasoline Alley, all new this year. It's a car buff's paradise with performance-enhancing product displays and exhibits that take SPEED to a new level.
If you're looking for "Firsts" we're thrilled to give you Shirley Muldowney, a racing pioneer and icon who scored 18 national event titles, an AHRA World Championship and who was the first two-time NHRA Winston World Champion. Not the first woman to do it, but the first racer to do it.
Saturday Night Sock Hop at the Prairie Capital Convention Center is back by popular demand, with headliner entertainment from the 50s & 60s. This is the only ticketed event.
International Route 66 Mother Road Festival & Car Show has more than 25 classes of car show awards.
Outdoor stages will rock n' roll with free concerts on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
Special guest appearance by Chevelle guru Chuck Hanson, formerly of Horsepower TV.
Commercial vendors, Route 66 memorabilia and swap meet are all at International Route 66 Mother Road Festival & Car Show.

"This event has grown into such a popular attraction with car show and festival crowds," said Kim Rosendahl, executive producer of the
festival. "We more than doubled our car registrations and attendance by the third year and expect to top 1,000 great show cars in 2007," she
added.
