Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley distributes about 35,000 pounds of food daily to 153 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties including Church pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, shelters for battered women, and after-school programs and more. They are a member of "Feeding America" and the need grows daily.
The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the abused, neglected, and unwanted animals. The New Animal Welfare Care and Education Center campaign will allow expansion of services above and beyond the 24/7 emergency animal rescue team and investigation of over 400 animal abuse cases yearly. It will provide a "Green" facility (approx. 24,000 sq ft) with adoption suites, seperate isolation and maternity wards, dog and cat park, afford the opportunity for a pet therapy program for special needs individuals, hands-on-training programs for Kent State University students (and be the first shelter situated on a college campus) for a new Vet tech program (with 6 vet stations) and hands-on-training for computer/misc for TCTC high school students. A pet store and community room for educational purposes will be an added benefit with adequate parking, ventilation and sooo much more. Naming rights for the new shelter are also available.
