Hemingway BBQ & Shag Festival Car Show

At its December 2009 meeting, Winyah Cruisers Car Club of Georgetown, SC,  presented a check for $4,000 to Caring & Sharing, Inc. the charity it chose to benefit from 2009 car shows sponsored by the club.  Caring & Sharing is a Christian based non-profit organiation dedicated to helping needy citizens in four local counties, including Georgetown County.  The group's main focus is to help elderly people who are trying to live off of $200-$750 a month.  Caring & Sharing helps needy families pay for utilities and medicine, and disperses food from a small food bank.  The economy has had a significant impact on the organization, with local grocery stores and larger  food banks not donating as much as they were.  The club also donated $4,000 to Citizens Against Spouse Abuse in 2008. 

Winyah Cruisers Car Club was founded in 1984 in Georgetown, South Carolina.  Club objectives are to promote interest in various forms of the old car and truck hobby, and to create good fellowship and sportsmanship among its membership.  Money raised by the club through membership dues and various activities is donated each year to local charities in the area.  Two major activities of the club are car shows at Georgetown’s annual Harborwalk Festival and Hemingway’s BBQ Shag Festival. 

The club’s social activities include “cruise-ins” to showcase members’ prized vehicles.  Members enjoy these opportunities to share with the public the details of restoring and maintaining these automotive gems and welcome anyone interested in joining the club.
