Want to Build Up 289. Help!

I have a 65 fastback with an original 289. I want to get the best bang for my buck. I'm looking to spend about $4000 on the engine. What can I do with that to get the best horsepower/daily driver combination? I was thinking 570 Holley Carb with Edelbrock 1500-6500 intake. What else? I'm not very car savvy but I'm trying to learn. Can you help me out?
