1967 Oldsmobile 442 Resurrection

1967 Olds 442 Muscle Car: Oldsmobile 442 Cutlass HT Coupe
Year: 1967
Engine: 400 cid
Condition: All Original

I am a woman from the era that really appreciates muscle cars.  My husband still owns a 1967 Olds 442.  Allow me to tell you the colorful history of this car.

In 1968, my husband was a junior in college. I was working on my PHT (Putting Hubby Thru) and money was really tight.  He had always wanted a Corvette and planned to buy one when he graduated. At that time the local Chevy dealer had a special financing plan for college seniors that allowed them to purchase a new car and pay only the interest until graduation. We had counted our pennies, nickles and dimes and had concluded that if we lived on a bare minimum of everything, we could swing it.  To cut to the chase, he ordered his new Corvette.  A couple of weeks later, I went for a check up. SURPRISE!!!  I was pronounced very pregnant.  Needless to say, there went the Vette.

My husband was very thrilled over our baby-to-be, but very disappointed over the loss of his Vette.  No man should have to go thru that, but he went down to the Chevy place and canceled the order.  We still needed a car, but one with more than 2 seats.

While there, he spotted a beautiful red an black 1967 Oldsmobile 442. We went for a test drive, and he was hooked.

We bought it and in December of that year our daughter was born.  My husband still calls her his little Corvette.

During the next few months, I became really good on the 4-speed and gained a reputation for putting down some formidable hot rods:GTO, Super Bee. Road Runner, Trans Am, etc.  It really crushed some guys egos to be beaten off the line at a traffic light by a little mama with a baby in the car seat.

We both loved that car and it became part of our family and our icon. On one ocasion, my husband's best friend was getting married.  My husband was best man, and our now two-year old daughter was flower girl.  After the ceremony, no one could find the groom's car, so they assumed he would be using our 442, and proceeded to decorate it accordingly. This was 1969, so we raised a few eyebrows as we drove home with our daughter in the car seat. Our next-door neighbors always looked at us a little differently after that.

We drove our 442 for many years, but gradually it fell into disrepair and we finally parked it with a promise that it would one day be Resurrected.

For various reasons, that has not happened. My husband is a very caring and generous person and on several occasions has given the "Resurrection Fund" to someone in need.  He had hoped to make it his retirement project; however, he  recentlyhad a stroke which limits what he can do physically. He has also been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing radiation treatments.  So even though the likelihood of his restoring his beloved 442 are very slim, he still talks about an dreams about it.

When I thought about how extensive the internet is, I came to believe that there are some old-school muscle car lovers like us who could not stand to see such a proud vehicle bite the dust. so I am asking if there is anyone out there who will help me in resurrecting a car and a dream.  My husband knows nothing about this, so I plan to surprise him. Please let me know if you are willing to help

Thank you for your consideration

Note: All of our photos were lost several years ago. Our 442 looked exactly like this when new.

Rocket!

My dad orderd his new Spainish Red 67 442 while working
for a local Olds dealer "Jim Hammes" in Mishawaka Indiana.
Honestly I can't remember how many 67's we had in the family
over almost 40 years but we sure had alot of red ones with black tops. It's to bad there aren't more Oldsmobiles in the Muscle Car Society not to mention when you create a account on the website Olds isn't even a option.
LOL Oldsmobile was the first car company to even expierment
with high compression engines.

It's really rare to see a car

It's really rare to see a car like this in great condition! The owner must be very keen to details during the restoration of this one off vehicle. It's really hard to find Oldsmobile Parts but somehow the owner managed to find every nuts and bolts to keep this car running again.
